Clock Was First Invented By Ancient Egyptians

Egypt has  joined the meter convention 

In 1962 Egypt has just joined the meter convention and became a member of the Bureau International de poids ET de Measure - BIPM.  In fact NIS feasibility study was provided by UNIDO, and the first wave of equipment came as a contribution of UNESCO.

A number of specialists in different branches of measurement sciences were recruited. Reputable scientific researchers and technologists were appointed as heads of new departments of the evolving National Metrology Institute.

In 1963 the industrialization program in Egypt was in full swing. The need for a high-level metrology institute was quite evident. A presidential decree was issued establishing the National Institute for Standards (NIS), to become responsible for realizing and disseminating the basic units of measurements

 Highlights

The main function and objectives of NIS are:

1- Operating The National system through the provision of calibration services for measurement equipment against national standards.

2 - Contracted research and development in metrology and advanced measurement technology.

3 - Providing consultancy and advice to industry and other organization in all matters related to measurement, calibration and requirements of total quality.

4 -  Training courses in measurement technologies end related management systems.

5 - Providing expertise and transfer of  knowledge through sharing, taking part and organizing international, regional and national metrology and accreditation activities and seminars.
